Back in 1993 when the Detroit techno collective Underground Resistance still included Jeff Mills and Robert Hood, the two producers licensed some of their work to Tresor Records in Berlin as the anonymous moniker X-103. The resulting release, Atlantis, followed two similar releases for Tresor -- the X-101 and X-102 projects. Both had proven highly successful, and this third release looked to be the most ambitious. Where the X-102 project based its concept on Saturn and its many rings, Mills and Hood based X-103 on the mythical city of Atlantis. Mills personally wrote the original release sheet in hopes of conveying his concept: "Approaching theories are not an easy task -- there is much in doubt! Ranging from origins (and in the case) the world of Atlantis, there are many doubts about its doom and disappearance." Tresor released Atlantis with much fanfare and many listeners speculated the origins of X-103 since the album itself did not credit either Mills or Hood. Years later, in 2002, Tresor re-released the album with bonus tracks, making it available domestically in the United States for the first time in years. ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide
