Trombonist Dicky Wells participated in three slip horn-centered sessions in February and April of 1958. All of this material has been compiled onto one disc by the Lone Hill Jazz label. The dominant trait throughout is the late-'50s swing groove formula associated with Count Basie. Collectively, Wells is joined in the front line by fellow trombonists Vic Dickenson, Benny Morton, and George Matthews, trumpeter Buck Clayton, and reedmen Rudy Rutherford and Buddy Tate. Read More
