The trio of bassist Lisle Ellis, altoist Marco Eneidi, and drummer Peter Valsamis engages in four free improvisations on Live At The Blue Note. Although their playing is often quite passionate and spontaneous, it is not random, for the musicians listen closely to each other. Plenty of fireworks occur, particularly when all three are in full flight, and the only slow moments occur about two-thirds of the way through the 40-minute "Philadelphia" before things heat up again. The musicians often act as equals with Eneidi, sometimes hinting a bit at Ornette Coleman although his tone is different. Read More
