The self-titled debut from E.m.s. is a crisp and straight-up electro record if there ever was one. Influences like The Jonzun Crew, Telex, the booty-tech of Detroit, and bits of Kraftwerk are noticeable, but the E.m.s. collection of home-built synths and sequencers makes their sound unique. There's also the lack of overt humor, which doesn't mean the tunes aren't playfully messed with or just plain fun-sounding. Vocoder vocals are detached, but a stray weaving synth line on "Rythmus Machine" jazzes the tune and a happy little melody rubbing up against a stern drum machine makes "Lounge Europa" a playful highlight. Read More
